121: Overcoming Drug Addiction by Faith
At the age of 20, Burton Barr Jr. was forcibly injected with heroin by a group of friends, marking the beginning of a 22-year struggle with drug addiction. During the peak of his addiction, when he was at his lowest point, his father approached him. Instead of lecturing Barr about quitting or discussing the pain he was causing his family and himself, his father simply handed him a Bible opened to a specific passage. He instructed Barr to read this passage, Psalms 121, every morning before leaving the house. This scripture became the key to Barr’s recovery, guiding him to overcome his dependencies on heroin, cocaine, crack, alcohol, cigarettes, and sex by embracing and living according to the words of the 121st Psalm.
