Alone in the Wilderness
In 1967, at the age of 50, Dick Proenneke chose to retire and embark on a journey to construct his own cabin in the wilds at the foot of the Aleutian Peninsula, now part of Lake Clark National Park. Through color footage he personally filmed, Proenneke narrates his journey to this secluded location, his choice of a homestead site, and the process of building his log cabin entirely on his own. This documentary chronicles his inaugural year in the wilderness, capturing his daily routines and the changing seasons as he endeavored to sustain himself in solitude.
