Belle

BELLE draws inspiration from the real-life story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the biracial, illegitimate daughter of a Royal Navy Admiral. Brought up by her noble great-uncle, Lord Mansfield, and his wife, Belle enjoys some advantages due to her heritage, but her race restricts her from fully engaging in the customs of her class. As she questions whether she will ever experience love, Belle becomes enamored with a visionary young vicar’s son committed to reform. Together, they influence Lord Mansfield’s position as Lord Chief Justice to abolish slavery in England.
