Hooligan Sparrow

The tension is intense as daring young director Nanfu Wang shadows the bold activist Ye Haiyan, known as Hooligan Sparrow, and her group of associates as they travel to Hainan Province in southern China. Their mission is to protest the sexual abuse of six elementary school girls by their principal. Labeled as state adversaries, the activists endure relentless government monitoring and are subjected to questioning, intimidation, and detention. Sparrow, who became famous for her efforts in supporting sex workers’ rights, persists in advocating for the rights of girls and women, leveraging the influence and scope of social media.
