Jack
Despite being just ten years old, Jack takes on the responsibility of caring for himself and his younger brother, Manuel, which makes him feel proud. Their mother, who is raising them alone, works during the day and frequently goes out at night, with no father figure present. One unfortunate day, Manuel suffers a burn from scalding water while bathing, and Jack is held accountable for the mishap. This incident prompts social services to place him in a care facility, where he feels intensely homesick. Before long, he finds himself in trouble and decides to escape, making his way back home. Upon his return, he discovers that his mother is absent once more. Jack and Manuel wander the city in search of her, spending nights in parks and an underground parking garage, evading the police, and encountering various adults—some who offer assistance and others who remain indifferent.
