Kidnap Capital
Picture leaving behind everything familiar—your home, your loved ones, your entire world. You embark on a perilous journey across a continent, traveling on foot, clinging to freight trains, and crammed into truck trailers. You brave treacherous rivers and cross borders without permission, trudging through the harsh Arizona desert. You face gunfire, theft, assault, and even sexual violence, yet you endure. You finally reach the United States after escaping the dire poverty of Central America. You’ve made it. But in this so-called “promised” land, you find yourself an outsider, both legally and socially. The language is foreign to you, and your arrival goes unnoticed; you are invisible. Imagine being a Nobody. Then, envision a bag being forced over your head, your clothes stripped away, and being thrown into a confined space with others. A gun is aimed at you, and you’re compelled to call home, pleading for money to save your life.
