Oba: The Last Samurai
In 1944, American forces arrive on the beaches of Saipan. Captain Oba Sakae, unwilling to follow his superiors in committing suicide or being captured as a prisoner of war, takes a band of his soldiers and like-minded locals into the mountains. Despite receiving news of Japan’s surrender, Oba disregards it as mere propaganda and persists in conducting guerilla warfare against the American troops, which earns him the moniker “The Fox.” Eventually, even the American commander tasked with capturing Oba grows to respect his tenacious adversary.
