Lakshmi, a young girl of thirteen, resides with her family in a modest dwelling on a Nepalese mountain. After the Himalayan monsoons devastate their remaining crops, her father insists that she must find work to help sustain the family. He introduces her to a charming stranger who promises to secure her a position as a maid in the city. Eager to assist her family, Lakshmi travels to India, arriving at a place called “Happiness House” with high hopes. However, she quickly discovers a horrifying reality: she has been trafficked into prostitution.
