The Girl
Alfred Hitchcock is celebrated as one of cinema’s most brilliant minds, particularly for his psychological thrillers. His films often featured leading ladies who were cool, beautiful, and preferably blonde. Tippi Hedren, a relatively unknown fashion model, was one such actress who got her big break after Hitchcock’s wife spotted her in a TV commercial. She was brought to Universal Studios and was taken aback when Hitchcock, at the height of his career, swiftly chose her to star in his upcoming film, 1963’s The Birds. Unbeknownst to Hedren, while the production itself was ambitious and frightening, the most challenging experiences would come from behind the scenes.
